Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 6th July 2014

Come To Me...
Come to me all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Jesus in today’s Gospel
Our Lord in heaven bears most of the weights of our burdens, our cares, our struggles.  Jesus tells us loud and clear, we don't have to live life alone, we don't have to live with all of our failures, with all of frustrations, with all of our burdens, but we must bring them to him.  And then he will shoulder them with us, in fact, he will take most of the weight of our burdens upon himself.  He will carry our burdens, he will lighten our loads.

Relay for Life
Relay for Life Kilkenny will be held at the Watershed Complex from 3.00pm on Saturday 19th July to 3.00pm to Sunday 20th July.  This relay has teams of volunteers who walk to celebrate cancer survivors and life. At dusk we light Luminaria around the track to remember those who we have lost because of cancer and we pledge to fight back against cancer by community education and raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society towards research and services.
We ask cancer survivors to come and be the beacons of HOPE and courage for those who may have a cancer diagnosis in the future.  This event was wonderful last year, however this year we would love to see more people from the locality come down and be part of this unique community event.

Good Luck to the Cats
We join in wishing the Kilkenny hurling teams all the best in this weekend’s Leinster Hurling Finals.  Special good wishes go to those from our parish involved with the teams.  Come on the Cats!

A Summer Prayer
Let us welcome the month of July and thank God for the lovely weather of recent days. Schools are closed and families are going on holidays. We ought to place great emphasis on road and water safety and be always careful and alert to danger. This is a lovely prayer for safety for the month of July from the oral tradition.
God be between me and the water that may drown me,
God between me and a road accident.
God guide me; God deliver me,
God accompany me,
God be my saviour on land and on sea.  Amen.
