Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 14th July 2013

Cemetery Mass
Our annual Foulkstown Cemetery Mass will take place on Thursday, 25th July at 7.30pm.  Please remind your relatives and friends, especially those who are living away from home.
Perhaps it is also time to make a move to prepare family graves and the graves of those neighbours who have no able family members remaining.

Contacting the Parish by Telephone
St. Patrick’s Parish telephone number is 056 776 4400.  Upon dialling that number you will be answered by an automatic communications system which will smoothly connect you to the priest, Parish Office or extension number you require.  Please note: if your business is urgent and you need to talk to the ‘Priest on Duty’ please dial Ext. 2 when the automatic system answers.  Mass times are listed on Ext. 3; those wishing to contact or leave a message for the Parish Office should dial Ext. 1.  Fr. Dan is at Ext. 4; Fr. Roderick is at Ext. 5 and Fr. Liam is at Ext. 6.

Please support by your attendance or bringing cakes and produce for sale on the day.

Rain on St. Swithin’s Day
St. Swithin’Day if thou dost rain, for forty days it will remain
St. Swithin’Day if thou be fair for forty days ‘twill rain nae mair.
On this Monday, 15th July, St. Swithin’s Day, many people will be on the alert for the weather forecast.  According to tradition, if the sun shines on this date forty days sunshine are in store. But alas if it rains, forty days of downpour will follow. Jane Struthers informs us in her book, Red Sky at Night, that the Meteorological Office researched this theory and declared it to be without foundation.
St. Swithin was bishop of Winchester in England and wished to be buried out of doors, breaking with the tradition of bishops being buried in the Cathedral.  Nine years later, an attempt was made to exhume his body and take it to the Cathedral, but gales blew, rain fell and the attempt had to be abandoned.
Let us be happy and patient with whatever weather God sends us, as patience brings relief.
Say the following prayer and one never knows what will happen: Lord God, send us rain but not wet weather, may tomorrow’s amount fall tonight. Amen.
