Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time, 25th August 2013

St. Fiacre’s Well Mass
The annual novena to St. Fiacre ends on this Sunday afternoon with Mass at the well in Kilfera at 3.30pm.  Novena prayers will be recited from 3.15pm on this Sunday afternoon.
St. Fiacre’s Well is situated at Sheastown on the banks of the Nore.  The well is approached via the avenue of Sheastown House which is about two miles beyond the roundabout on the Bennettsbridge Road.  About fifty people gathered there each evening during the past week and we anticipate a much larger congregation on Sunday afternoon.  Why not come out and join us in this celebration which has continued uninterrupted for generations?  Bottled water from the well will be available on the day.
Thanks to the St. Fiacre’s Well Committee and all involved in organising this annual event.  Thanks, also, to the local landowners for their understanding and generous cooperation in allowing the novena to take place on private property.
All are welcome to attend the concluding Mass and, if you have been taking part in the novena, we pray the blessings you asked for will be granted through the intercession of  St. Fiacre.

At-Mass Survey
This weekend, at all Masses in our parish and across the Diocese of Ossory, a survey will take place to allow the Catholic community to share its view regarding vital plans under consideration by Bishop Freeman.  Our Bishop would like the opportunity to be given to all to participate in this opinion gathering exercise.  In this way, we hope that as we take the next steps in this endeavour, we will do so informed by as wide a body of opinion as possible.
Please take the time during Mass to read and consider the plans outlined and then fill in the survey provided.  All surveys are confidential and you can choose to give your contact details if you wish before returning the completed document.

Theological Studies Programme
This programme at St. Kieran’s College ran for the second time last year with a group of 25 participants. It was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The course aims at providing religious education, faith formation and spiritual enrichment for those actively engaged in parish life or in the pastoral care of people, young and old. The course would be of enormous help and value to people involved in teaching at primary level or indeed for those finding themselves teaching R.E. at second level without any formal training or qualification in the area. The programme is a Level 7 Certificate accredited by St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. It provides a solid foundation for any of these fields of ministry and a suitable springboard for further specialization. Above all it helps create confidence and conviction for future volunteers in the life of the parish and the church.
The programme runs for 24 weeks, September – May, Mondays and Thursdays, 7.00 – 9.00pm with modules in the Old and New Testament Scriptures, Church History, The Church, past and present, Moral Theology, Liturgy and Sacraments.
For further details apply to Declan Murphy, Course Director on 087 908 1470 or 056 775 3624 or theology@ossory.ie

A Realistic Prayer
I want to thank you, Lord
for being so close to me this day.
With your help, I haven't been impatient,
lost my temper, been grumpy, judgemental or envious of anyone.
But, I will be getting out of bed in a minute and I think I’ll really need your help then.  Amen.
